Do you need help with past due rent or utilities because of COVID-19? This drop-in Housing Help clinic is designed for you. \nTalk with staff from Tacomaprobono and Pierce County Human Services\, to get answers to your basic questions about eviction prevention related to COVID-19\, legal protections for tenants\, the Eviction Moratorium\, and the Eviction Resolution Program\, or apply for rental/utility assistance on-site. Tacomaprobono will also be able help determine if you’re eligible for 1:1 assistance through their legal clinics\, and complete that intake process. \nPlease register in advance to help us get an idea of how many attendees to expect.

National Day of Remembrance (observed annually on Feb. 19) recognizes President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066 and the subsequent incarceration of nearly 120\,000 people of Japanese descent living mostly in Washington\, Oregon\, and California. \nThis fascinating two-part program will be streamed via Facebook Live! \n6:00 PM – Scholarly Selections: Becoming Nisei – Japanese American Lives in Prewar Tacoma. Hear from University of Washington Tacoma’s Lisa M. Hoffman\, professor of urban studies and author of Patriotic Professionalism in Urban China: Fostering Talent\, and Spaces of Danger: Culture and Power in the Everyday.\n7:00 PM – Fujitaro Kubota and His Garden film screening and Q&A. This documentary film examines the enduring dreams and legacy of immigrant and nurseryman Fujitaro Kubota\, a self-taught gardener who built a thriving landscape business and\, through many years of work and challenges\, toiled and shaped a landmark Japanese garden in South Seattle. While incarcerated at the Minidoka (Idaho) concentration camp during World War II\, Kubota also created a memorable garden in the desert where he was held.
